Google loves these types of sites and the two main things to rank well are to:

1) Update your blog regularly with fresh
content

2) Promote your blog by getting one-way
back links to it

A backlink is just a link on someone elses
website that points to your website.

This could either be to the main page or to any other page or post.

It's best to get links to both your main page and to other pages/posts on
your blog.
